Rot (outer god)

The Outer God of Rot is one of the Outer Gods, and its divine element is scarlet rot. It never appears as a character you can talk to, but its influence is everywhere: in the red swamps, the rotting creatures and the people who chose to serve it.

Long ago it took physical form as a great scorpion in what are now the underground ruins of the ancient dynasty. A Blind Swordsman defeated it and sealed it away in the place now known as the Lake of Rot.

Lore

Rot is a kind of death that brings forth new life, and even rebirth, through decay. Its devotees let mushrooms sprout from their bodies, believing this bound them to the earth.

Among those tied to it are Malenia, Goddess of Rot, Romina, Saint of the Bud, Sage Gowry, the Kindred of Rot and Millicent’s Sisters. The defeated god’s stinger was made into a dagger, the Scorpion’s Stinger, and kept at the Grand Cloister.

Other Outer Gods include the Formless Mother, Death and the Greater Will.
