Usher of Death, Rosus

Rosus is a long-necked, nearly skeletal figure, bent with age and hunchbacked. His eyeless face is ridged like tree bark, and a row of dead, twig-like horns grows from his brow like a crown. He has five clawed fingers on each hand but only four toes. He wears a robe with drooping sleeves and a pin shaped like an eight-spoked wheel.

You never meet him in person, but you see his statues all over the Lands Between, each holding a small dish with a black candle.

Lore

Rosus was the Usher of Death, a guide who led Those Lost in Death back to the roots for Erdtree Burial. Statues in his likeness stood all across the land, lighting the path to the catacombs. Whether he was a real person or just a figure used in religious imagery is unclear.

Notes & tips

  • Activate a Rosus statue and it shows a message and sends out an arrow-like trail of blue light pointing to a nearby catacomb. If you have not found that catacomb yet, the statue and its light also show up on your map.
  • Rosus’ Axe is behind an Imp Seal in the Black Knife Catacombs. Its skill summons Those Lost in Death.
  • Like Deathbirds and Gravebirds, Rosus cranes his neck.
