Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame

Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame lives in Midra’s Manse, deep in the Abyssal Woods. Long ago, the sage Midra tried to become a Lord of Frenzied Flame and failed. The Hornsent pierced him with a greatsword to hold his power down, and he has suffered there ever since, warning every visitor to leave.

The fight starts with a weak, broken old man. It does not stay that way.

This boss is part of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. To reach the Land of Shadow, you first need to defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohgwyn Palace.

How to beat it

Opening. First you face the feeble Midra. He staggers easily and has little health, but his scream and his grab can still hurt, so finish him quickly.

Phase 1. He pulls the sword free and his head becomes a ball of Frenzied Flame. He mixes quick and delayed greatsword swings, and many attacks build madness.

Phase 2. At around 65% health he rises above you and slams down in a big explosion. After that he keeps his old moves and uses madness much more often. Gear that raises your focus, and Clarifying Boluses to cure madness, help a lot.

Lore

Midra endured the frenzy for the sake of his beloved Nanaya. The Frenzied Flame he failed to master is the same one the Three Fingers offer in the base game.
