Mohg, Lord of Blood

Mohg, Lord of Blood rules Mohgwyn Palace, a blood-soaked island deep in the underground Siofra River. He is the twin brother of Morgott, born an Omen, and he has stolen Miquella’s cocoon in the hope of raising a new dynasty with the young god at his side.

He is also one of the most feared optional bosses in the game, because of one attack in particular: Nihil. A smaller version of him, Mohg, the Omen, can be fought earlier in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds beneath Leyndell.

How to beat it

Phase 1. Mohg fights with a big trident and blood magic. As his health drops, he raises his trident and chants, and a red ring appears around you. This happens a few times. When he reaches half health, he performs the Bloodboon Ritual, a huge burst of damage that also heals him.

Mohg’s Shackle. Use it! The shackle, found in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds, pins him to the ground, and you can use it twice during phase 1 to get free hits.

Phase 2. He sprouts wings and his trident burns with bloodflame. Soon he casts Nihil, a three-stage blood curse that drains your health. Heal right before and during it, and wear something that boosts health or reduces bleed if you can. The Purifying Crystal Tear in your Flask of Wondrous Physick removes the curse completely. Many players consider it essential.

Lore

Mohg and Morgott were born to Marika and Godfrey and were hidden away as Omens. Mohg found a different path: he embraced the Formless Mother and her blood, and dreamed of a dynasty with Miquella as its god.

Defeating Mohg, together with Starscourge Radahn, is what opens the way to the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, through the withered arm in his palace.

Notes & tips

  • The easiest way to reach Mohgwyn Palace is White Mask Varré’s Pureblood Knight’s Medal.
  • His remembrance can be traded for the Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear or Bloodboon.
