Godrick the Grafted
Godrick the Grafted rules Stormveil Castle from its highest hall, a demigod of the golden lineage who has stitched the limbs of beaten foes onto his own body to make up for blood that runs thin. For most players he is the first Shardbearer and the first real wall in Limgrave, the fight that teaches you to read big, slow wind-ups and punish them.
Beating him gives you Godrick’s Great Rune and the Remembrance of the Grafted, and it also nudges a few stories along. Roderika, the frightened girl in Stormhill Shack, lost every companion she came with to his grafting.

How to beat it
Phase 1. Godrick hits hard but slowly. Most of his axe swings and slams have a long wind-up, so the safest habit is to wait for the swing to start, roll through it, and take one or two hits before backing off. Do not get greedy after his five-hit axe combo, the last swings come later than you expect.
Watch for Stormcaller: he spins the axe and kicks up a cyclone that throws you back, then rolls into a wind-charged slash. Keep your distance while the wind is up and come back in once the follow-up lands. Storm Blade sends several homing wind blades at you; a late roll toward him usually slips through them. When he grinds the axe along the floor, an overhead chop is coming.
Phase 2. At around 60% health he stops, cuts off his own arm and grafts a dragon head in its place. From here on many attacks add fire, the dragon head breathes flame, and I Command Thee, Kneel! gets a third, bigger shockwave. Staying close to his legs and slightly to the side keeps you out of most of the fire breath.
If you talked to Nepheli Loux in Stormveil, her summon sign waits outside the boss fog. She is a solid tank for this fight. Spirit ashes are allowed too, and Roderika’s Spirit Jellyfish Ashes are a handy early pick for steady ranged chip damage.
Lore
Godrick is a distant offshoot of the golden lineage that began with Queen Marika and Godfrey, the first Elden Lord. His divine blood is so thin that others call him the runt of the litter, and he answers that by worshipping Godfrey, carrying a lion-marked axe and calling out to his ancestor in the middle of battle.
When the Elden Ring was shattered he received the Great Rune from its centre, known as the anchor ring. He fled the Royal Capital hidden among the womenfolk, hid from General Radahn in Stormveil, insulted Malenia and lost to her, and survived by begging. Few of his own servants respect him, and Gatekeeper Gostoc grumbles about him openly.
Notes & tips
- Stance can be broken, which opens him up to a critical hit. Charged heavy attacks and jump attacks build stance quickly.
- Defeating him (or resting at a Site of Grace in Liurnia) moves Roderika from Stormhill Shack to Roundtable Hold. Talk to her first if you want her gifts there.
- Nepheli Loux can later take over Stormveil Castle once her story progresses.
