Stats and Attributes

Every Elden Ring attribute and derived stat explained: what Vigor, Mind, Endurance, Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Faith and Arcane actually do.

Elden Ring has eight attributes you level with Runes, and a handful of derived stats like HP, FP and Stamina that those attributes feed into. This hub links every one of them so you can see what a point actually buys you before you spend it.

How leveling works

Every level-up puts one point into one attribute, paid for with Runes at a Site of Grace. Your starting class only decides where those points begin, and if you change your mind later, Rebirth lets you reshuffle them. Several attributes have soft caps: past a certain number, each extra point gives noticeably less. The individual pages list those breakpoints.

The eight attributes

Attribute What it does
Vigor Maximum HP, plus fire defense and Immunity.
Mind Maximum FP, plus Focus against Sleep and Madness.
Endurance Maximum Stamina, Equip Load and Robustness.
Strength Damage on Strength-scaling weapons and physical defense.
Dexterity Damage on Dexterity-scaling weapons, faster spellcasting and less fall damage.
Intelligence Sorcery damage, Intelligence-scaling weapons and magic defense.
Faith Incantation damage and Faith-scaling weapons.
Arcane Discovery, holy defense, Vitality, Arcane-scaling weapons and status buildup.

Derived stats

These numbers are not leveled directly. They grow from the attributes above and from your gear.

  • HP: your health pool, raised by Vigor.
  • FP: the resource for spells and weapon skills, raised by Mind.
  • Stamina: spent on attacking, blocking, rolling and casting, raised by Endurance.
  • Equip Load: how much weight you can carry before your roll suffers, raised by Endurance.
  • Poise: how well you resist being staggered, which comes from armor and talismans.
  • Discovery: your chance of finding item drops, raised by Arcane.

Picking a starting class

If you already know which attribute your build leans on, start with the class that has the most of it: Vagabond for Vigor, Astrologer for Mind and Intelligence, Samurai for Endurance, Hero for Strength, Warrior for Dexterity, Prophet for Faith and Bandit for Arcane. Wretch starts with 10 in everything at level 1.
