Endings

All six Elden Ring endings compared: the questline each one needs, where you choose it, and how the Frenzied Flame locks the rest out.

Elden Ring has six endings: Age of Fracture, Age of Order, Age of the Duskborn, Blessing of Despair, Age of the Stars and Lord of Frenzied Flame. Age of Fracture only asks you to finish the game; every other ending depends on a side questline or, in one case, on a choice deep beneath Leyndell.

How endings work

Each ending is the Tarnished taking up the Elden Ring and starting a new Age, and the choices and questlines you follow along the way decide which Ages are on the table. Four of them (Fracture, Order, Duskborn and Despair) make you Marika’s new Elden Lord with a different flavour of order. Age of the Stars hands the throne to Ranni instead, and Lord of Frenzied Flame throws the whole idea away.

Two endings in particular need you to put in real work before the final boss: Age of the Stars requires finishing Ranni’s questline, and Age of the Duskborn requires finishing Fia’s questline. The same goes for Age of Order and Blessing of Despair with their own NPCs.

All six endings compared

Ending Questline needed Where you choose it
Age of Fracture None Marika’s statue, mend the Ring with no rune
Age of Order Corhyn and Goldmask Marika’s statue, Mending Rune of Perfect Order
Age of the Duskborn Fia Marika’s statue, Mending Rune of the Death-Prince
Blessing of Despair Dung Eater Marika’s statue, Mending Rune of the Fell Curse
Age of the Stars Ranni Ranni’s blue summon sign near the statue
Lord of Frenzied Flame None, but you must take the Flame of Frenzy from the Three Fingers Marika’s statue (it is the only option)

Choosing your ending

Once you defeat the Elden Beast, you wake in a room with Marika’s statue and a Site of Grace beside it. Nothing happens until you interact with something, and that grace lets you travel away and come back whenever you like, so you never have to commit on the spot.

  • Touch Marika’s statue and you can pick one of the mending runes you are carrying, or mend the Ring without one.
  • If Ranni’s questline is done, her summon sign also appears near the statue, and that is the Age of the Stars.
  • If you carry the Frenzied Flame, the statue gives you no choice at all and Ranni’s sign does not show up.

The Frenzied Flame warning

Accepting the Flame of Frenzy from the Three Fingers in the Frenzied Flame Proscription locks you out of every ending except Lord of Frenzied Flame. You can lift that lock with Miquella’s Needle when it prompts you at the Dragonlord Placidusax arena, but doing so shuts the Frenzied Flame ending for good.

Can you get every ending in one playthrough?

Not in the sense of seeing them all in one go: each playthrough ends with the one Age you pick. The statue lists whichever mending runes you have collected, so carrying more than one simply gives you more options at the end, and the grace next to it lets you leave and come back before deciding. Picking an ending is also how you move on, since New Game Plus only starts after you have chosen one. After the credits you can begin the next journey straight away or start it later from the Roundtable Hold grace.
