Lord of Frenzied Flame

How the Lord of Frenzied Flame ending works: take the Flame of Frenzy from the Three Fingers, never use Miquella's Needle, and touch Marika's statue.

Lord of Frenzied Flame is the ending you get by inheriting the Flame of Frenzy from the Three Fingers beneath Leyndell and finishing the game without removing it with Miquella’s Needle. Once you carry the flame, this is the only ending available.

What the ending is

This is the legacy of Shabriri and the Three Fingers. You turn your back on being Elden Lord entirely and become the Lord of Frenzied Flame, burning away everything that divides one thing from another. The Frenzied Flame consumes the world and leaves you almost completely alone.

Requirements

  • Defeat Morgott, the Omen King; his seal at the Cathedral of the Forsaken blocks the way down until then. You also need to beat Mohg, the Omen, whose defeat unlocks the Cathedral of the Forsaken grace.
  • Travel to the Frenzied Flame Proscription in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds, remove all your armor and interact with the burnt door to meet the Three Fingers and inherit the flame.
  • Never use Miquella’s Needle afterwards.

You do not need Hyetta for this, but her questline leads to the same door and explains a lot about it.

What it costs

Taking the flame ends your accord with Melina for good: she leaves at the next grace you rest at, and that cannot be undone with Miquella’s Needle. She tries to talk you out of it if you rest at the Frenzied Flame Proscription grace first. With her gone, you get an option to listen to the flames at the Forge of the Giants grace, which lets you continue on to Crumbling Farum Azula. See Melina’s questline for the full picture.

How to trigger it

Defeat the Elden Beast while carrying the flame. In the room with Marika’s statue, interacting with the statue starts this ending automatically; there is no menu of choices and Ranni’s sign does not appear. The Site of Grace there still lets you leave and return later.

If Melina was not sacrificed as kindling, an extra scene plays after the ending: she finds the burnt Spectral Steed Whistle in the ashes and vows to hunt you down with Destined Death. If she was sacrificed, the scene simply does not play.

How to avoid locking it out (or get out of it)

The only thing that removes this ending is Miquella’s Needle, used when it prompts you at the Dragonlord Placidusax arena. That suppresses the flame for good and reopens the other endings, but the flame can never be reclaimed afterwards. If you want this ending, simply leave the Needle alone.

What it means

Lord of Frenzied Flame answers a broken world not by mending it but by burning it all down, fulfilling the will of Shabriri and the Three Fingers instead of anyone’s idea of order. It is the one ending where you are not Elden Lord at all, and, if Melina lived, the game makes sure you know who will come for you.
