Blessing of Despair is the ending where you mend the Elden Ring with the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse. To unlock it you must complete the Dung Eater’s questline, which means collecting five Seedbed Curses.
What the ending is
This is the legacy of the Dung Eater. You become Elden Lord, but the Ring you mend curses life itself, so every generation to come is born defiled. His reasoning is that once Order itself is cursed, a curse stops being a mark of shame, because no one is left to scorn anyone else.
Requirements
The only way to get the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse is through the Dung Eater himself:
- After you touch any Site of Grace on the Altus Plateau, he appears in the western part of the Roundtable Hold. Talk to him with at least one Seedbed Curse to get the Sewer-Gaol Key.
- Find his cell in the Underground Roadside below Leyndell, Royal Capital and free him.
- Later, meet Blackguard Big Boggart by the moat outside the capital. After the Dung Eater’s invasion there, he returns to the Hold and asks you to defile his body with the Seedbed Curse.
- With all five Seedbed Curses in hand, return to him in the Underground Roadside, use the Seedbed Curse and loot the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse.
The Dung Eater questline page has the full walkthrough, including the optional summons against Mohg and Morgott.
How to trigger it
Beat the Elden Beast and you arrive in a room with Marika’s statue and a Site of Grace. Interact with the statue and pick the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse from the list of mending runes. That starts the Blessing of Despair. If you are not ready yet, the grace lets you travel elsewhere and come back later; nothing is decided until you touch the statue.
How to avoid locking it out
When you find him in the Underground Roadside at that stage, you are also given the option to administer Seluvis’s Potion and turn him into a puppet. That route is meant for players who are not following his questline, so skip it if you want this ending.
The Frenzied Flame can take this ending away. If you accept it from the Three Fingers in the Frenzied Flame Proscription, every ending except Lord of Frenzied Flame is locked. You can undo that by using Miquella’s Needle when it prompts you at the Dragonlord Placidusax arena, which reopens the other endings and permanently closes the Frenzied Flame one.
What it means
Blessing of Despair fulfils the Dung Eater’s twisted vision: an accursed world where defilement becomes the norm, so that no one can be scorned for it. With Order itself defiled, every curse turns into a kind of cursed blessing.
