Dexterity boosts weapons that scale with Dexterity, shortens the casting time of spells and, past 21, reduces fall damage. It also makes it harder to get knocked off your horse. Its main soft caps sit at 50 for Lightning-affinity damage, 60 for physical damage and 80 as the final breakpoint.
What Dexterity does
Like Strength, Dexterity adds damage to any weapon with Dexterity scaling, and many advanced weapons need a minimum amount just to be used properly. It also has a quieter perk that casters appreciate: higher Dexterity speeds up spellcasting. You raise it the usual way: spend Runes at a Site of Grace once Melina has given you the ability to level up.
Dexterity soft caps
Every attribute stops at 99, but Dexterity’s damage gains slow down well before that. You still get something from each point past a breakpoint, just less. The early breakpoints are mild and depend on the weapon’s affinity:
| Dexterity | What changes |
|---|---|
| 16 | Small drop in gains for Quality weapons |
| 18 | Small drop for Standard (no affinity), Poison and Blood weapons, and for the physical part of elemental affinities |
| 20 | Small drop for Keen, Occult and elemental affinities, and for innate elemental scaling |
| 30 / 45 | Casting breakpoints for the Frenzied Flame Seal, which scales with Dexterity |
| 50 | Elemental damage that scales with Dexterity (mainly the Lightning affinity) drops off sharply |
| 60 | Physical damage on all affinities slows; 56 to 60 gives less per point than 60 to 80 |
| 80 | Last breakpoint for every affinity. Rarely worth it outside physical builds, and even there it’s a stretch |
So a Lightning build can stop at 50, while Keen and Standard weapons keep paying off up to 60. Because the affinity decides which breakpoint matters, read Affinities and the weapon scaling guide before you commit your levels. Unlike Strength, Dexterity gets no boost from two-handing.
Dexterity requirements for popular weapons
Beyond the soft caps, the minimum needed for each weapon is worth knowing. A few common ones:
| Dexterity needed | Weapons |
|---|---|
| 10 | Longsword, Short Sword, Broadsword, Shortbow |
| 12 | Great Knife, Rapier, Halberd, Miséricorde |
| 13 | Scimitar, Estoc, Claymore, Reduvia |
| 14 | Parrying Dagger, Longbow, Whip, Grafted Blade Greatsword |
| 15 | Uchigatana, Spear, Composite Bow |
| 17 | Bloodhound’s Fang, Rogier’s Rapier |
| 18 | Twinblade, Frozen Needle, Flail |
| 20 | Vyke’s War Spear |
| 22 | Axe of Godrick, Treespear, Clinging Bone |
| 24 | Nightrider Flail |
Which builds want Dexterity
Quality and Dexterity builds using katanas, curved swords, thrusting swords, twinblades and bows rely on it. Casters often add some for faster casting, and hybrid builds pair it with Strength, Faith or Arcane depending on the weapon. If you outgrow your build, Rebirth lets you respec.

|---|---|

The Hero starts lowest with 9.
