HP is your health. When it hits zero you die, drop your Runes and wake up at the last Site of Grace you rested at or a nearby Stake of Marika. You raise it by leveling Vigor.
How to get more HP
Every point of Vigor adds HP, but not evenly. You start at 300 with 1 Vigor, gains climb to over 40 per point in the 30s, then slow after 40 and almost stall after 60. You refill HP by drinking from the Flask of Crimson Tears or resting at a grace.
| Vigor | Max HP |
|---|---|
| 1 | 300 |
| 10 | 414 |
| 20 | 652 |
| 30 | 994 |
| 40 | 1,450 |
| 50 | 1,704 |
| 60 | 1,900 |
| 70 | 1,959 |
| 80 | 2,015 |
| 90 | 2,065 |
| 99 | 2,100 |
In short, the jump from 30 to 40 Vigor is worth about 450 HP, while going from 60 all the way to 99 only adds 200.
Which starting classes have the most HP
Starting HP follows starting Vigor, so the Vagabond (15) begins with the biggest health bar, followed by the Hero (14) and Samurai (12). The Astrologer has the smallest with 9 Vigor.
Talismans and gear that change HP
- Crimson Amber Medallion: +6% max HP. The Crimson Amber Medallion +1 gives +7% and the Crimson Amber Medallion +2 +8%.
- Erdtree’s Favor: raises max HP along with Stamina and Equip Load.
- Anything that adds Vigor, such as the Crimson Hood or Radagon’s Scarseal, raises HP indirectly.
Watch out for some sorcerer crowns: the Olivinus Glintstone Crown, Twinsage Glintstone Crown and Lazuli Glintstone Crown all lower your HP in exchange for Intelligence.
