Godfrey, First Elden Lord
Godfrey was the first Elden Lord, Queen Marika’s first consort and the warrior who conquered the Lands Between in the name of the Erdtree. Marika later took his grace and sent him into exile, and he has been waiting ever since to come home.
You fight him twice. In Leyndell, Royal Capital you face a golden shade of him, a memory of the king. In Leyndell, Ashen Capital the real Godfrey returns, and halfway through the fight he lets go of everything that made him a king and becomes Hoarah Loux, the warrior he used to be.

How to beat it
Phase 1: Godfrey. He usually opens by throwing his axe and charging after it. His stomp sends spikes out of the ground in a ring, much like the Crucible Knights. Those spikes are easier to jump over than to roll through. After a stomp he often follows with a string of axe swings, so do not rush in too early.
Phase 2: Hoarah Loux. At half health Godfrey lets the lion spirit Serosh go and fights with his bare hands. He becomes a grappler: big leaps, slams and a grab that hits like a truck. His first move is always a delayed charging grab, so get ready to roll as soon as the cutscene ends. Watch for his ground stomps, which send shockwaves out in a wide ring.
Help. In the Ashen Capital, Nepheli Loux can be summoned if you completed her story, and so can Shabriri if you followed a certain darker path.
Lore
Godfrey was once Hoarah Loux, a ferocious warrior who loved battle above all else. To rule as Marika’s consort, he took the lion Serosh onto his back to keep his rage in check. When he drops Serosh in the second phase, you are seeing the man he was before he became a king.
Notes & tips
- Godfrey is the ancestor of Godrick the Grafted, who worships him, and the father of Morgott and Mohg.
