Divine Beast Dancing Lion

The Divine Beast Dancing Lion is usually the first big boss of the expansion. It waits at the end of Belurat, Tower Settlement. The divine beasts were messengers of the heavens, and the Hornsent honoured them with a lion dance during their tower festival. When Messmer’s army came, the dance became a weapon.

A second Dancing Lion roams the Ancient Ruins of Rauh, and that one can be fought on horseback.

This boss is part of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. To reach the Land of Shadow, you first need to defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohgwyn Palace.

How to beat it

Phase 1. The lion fights with heavy bites, charges and stomps. Staying close to its side keeps you out of the worst of its front attacks.

Phase 2. At around 70% health it starts switching between three storm elements on a timer: lightning, frost and wind. Each element changes its big attacks, so watch for the change and give it room when the new storm starts.

Lore

The Belurat lion was under the control of Hornsent Grandam, who waited for Messmer’s forces to return. When you arrived, she took you for one of them.

Notes & tips

  • If you killed Hornsent Grandam first, the beast’s introduction changes. She survived the attack, and her voice sounds more desperate.
