Elemer of the Briar

Elemer of the Briar is a hulking knight wrapped in rusted iron thorns. He came from Eochaid, a faraway land of proud ascetics, and after the Shattering he hunted merchants and teachers for their Bell Bearings. He was caught and brought to The Shaded Castle to be executed, but the execution failed.

You meet him at the top of the castle, staring at a painting of Malenia. You may already know him without realising it: the Bell Bearing Hunters who show up at night at merchant shacks around the Lands Between are echoes of Elemer.

How to beat it

Stay close. Elemer can send his sword flying through the air and control it from a distance, and those ranged swipes are wide and hard to read. Up close, his attacks are slower and easier to dodge.

If you get behind him and land a single hit, he often answers with a shield slam, which leaves him open again. Lighter weapons can loop this nicely.

Lore

The Bell Bearing Hunters appear at night, but only after you have spoken to the merchant or teacher they are hunting. At the Warmaster’s Shack, talk to Knight Bernahl first. At the Church of Vows, speak to Miriel.

Notes & tips

  • After you beat him in the Shaded Castle, Finger Reader Enia sells the Briar Set.
  • The Bell Bearing Hunter at the Dragonbarrow is the strongest of the four.
