Jar-Bairn’s Questline
Jar-Bairn is a young living jar in the secluded village of Jarburg in Liurnia of the Lakes. He secretly sees himself as a warrior jar like his uncle Alexander, and meanwhile he is hunting for a new Potentate for the village. You, sadly, do not have smooth enough hands for the job.
His story is a small, sweet epilogue to two other questlines. Diallos becomes the village’s Potentate and protector, and Alexander’s journey ends with you holding his innards. Bring those to Jar-Bairn and he gives you the Companion Jar talisman before setting out on his own adventure.
Rewards
- Companion Jar, for giving him Alexander’s Innards
- Permission to pick the rare flowers in Jarburg whenever you like
Walkthrough
- Meet Jar-Bairn in Jarburg. He sits in front of a house north-west of the Site of Grace in Jarburg. Talk to him until he runs out of words. He makes a request, and whether you accept it does not change anything later. Rest at a Site of Grace and talk to him again. He also tells you that you are welcome to pick the rare flowers growing in the village.
- Talk about his uncle. Once you have met Alexander, Warrior Jar, rest at a Site of Grace again and Jar-Bairn has new things to say.
- Hear about the poachers. After Knight Diallos has arrived at Volcano Manor, reload the area and talk to Jar-Bairn again. He warns you about poachers who hunt living jars.
- Return after Diallos leaves the manor. Once Diallos has left Volcano Manor, go back to Jarburg and talk to Jar-Bairn.
- Meet the new Potentate. Reload the area six times, then talk to Jar-Bairn near the middle of the village. Talk to Diallos, reload the area once more and talk to Jar-Bairn again. See Diallos’s Questline for his side of things.
- Give him Alexander’s Innards. After you defeat Alexander in Crumbling Farum Azula, bring Alexander’s Innards to Jar-Bairn. He gives you the Companion Jar. Reload the area and talk to him for his last words.
Missable steps & failure conditions
- Diallos must move on. The middle of the quest only advances as Diallos first arrives at and then leaves Volcano Manor, so his questline has to progress for Jar-Bairn’s to continue.
- Alexander’s quest must be finished. You only get the innards by defeating Alexander in Crumbling Farum Azula at the end of Alexander’s Questline.
- Lots of reloading. Jar-Bairn’s lines often only change after you rest or reload the area, and one step needs six reloads in a row. If he says nothing new, reload again before you give up.
Endings & consequences
- Diallos. He becomes Jarburg’s Potentate and defends the village when poachers attack. Many jars are broken, and Diallos himself does not survive his wounds.
- Jar-Bairn’s choice. Inspired by Diallos, he decides to become a warrior who protects everyone. With his uncle’s innards he grows stronger and decides to leave the village in search of glory, just like Alexander.
- A late addition. Jar-Bairn arrived with game update 1.03. Before that, Diallos’s story had no ending and Alexander’s Innards had no use.
