Hippopotamus
Hippopotamuses are hefty four-legged beasts that live close to water in the Realm of Shadow. They look a lot like the Golden Hippopotamus of Shadow Keep, but they have none of its special tricks. They simply rely on their size, strength and bad temper.
They work like unmarked mini-bosses rather than ordinary wildlife. One of them roams near a body of water in the red fields close to the Cerulean Coast.
How to beat it
Treat a hippo like a small boss fight, not a stray animal. It is big, aggressive and hits hard, so give it room, stay mobile and punish it after its attacks instead of trading blows. The reward makes it worth the effort, since each one gives you a Scadutree Fragment.
Lore
The golden hippo in Shadow Keep can grow thorn-like fur on its back, a leftover of the vitality of the Crucible that thrived before the land was covered in shadow. You can learn that power yourself as Aspects of the Crucible: Thorns.
