Erdtree Greatshield

The Erdtree Greatshield is a heavy golden greatshield that blocks all physical damage and also offers strong Holy and Magic negation. It deals a mix of physical and Holy damage and scales with Strength and Faith, so it fits a Strength/Faith build that can carry its weight.

Its unique skill, Golden Retaliation, raises the shield to cancel incoming sorceries and incantations and answers with a burst of golden power. It is the shield of the Tree Sentinels, the knights every Erdtree defender looks up to.

Dropped by the Tree Sentinel duo guarding the southern entrance to the Capital Outskirts on the Altus Plateau.

Item description & lore

Forged from gold and carried by the heavily armoured Tree Sentinels, this shield holds an old protective incantation. The Sentinels are seen as the living wall of the Erdtree and the model for all who guard it. The shield’s artwork shows an elder and a maiden standing beside a tree.

Notes & tips

  • Full physical guard plus very good Holy and Magic negation.
  • The damaging part of Golden Retaliation can be triggered by any lasting magical effect, including your own spells and items, not just enemy sorceries and incantations.
  • The returning disc of Discus of Light and the spirit from the Wraith Calling Bell are cheap ways to feed the skill.
  • Each activation only blocks a single projectile.
