Ancient Dragon Gransax
Gransax was a gigantic ancient dragon who fought with a great spear shaped like a twisting bolt of lightning. You never fight him: what you meet is his enormous stone corpse, lying where he fell in Leyndell, Royal Capital at the Fortified Manor.
He is far bigger than any other ancient dragon in the game, roughly nine times the size of a normal one. Later on, his body is half buried in ash in Leyndell, Ashen Capital.
Fate & endings
Gransax was defeated during his assault on the capital and frozen in place where he fell.
Lore
Early in the Age of the Erdtree, Gransax broke through the walls of the Royal Capital and started the War of the Ancient Dragons. The Erdtree’s knights shielded themselves from his red lightning with the Golden Lightning Fortification incantation.
After the war, some Tree Sentinels decided the only way to guard the Erdtree was to become dragons themselves, which is how the Draconic Tree Sentinels came to be. Why Gransax and the other dragons came down from Farum Azula in the first place is never explained.
Notes & tips
- His spear survives as the Bolt of Gransax, which you can take from his remains in Leyndell.
