Dane’s Questline
Dryleaf Dane is a silent monk and master of unarmed combat who has served Miquella longer than Leda has. He does not talk. He leaves a note asking travellers to come and challenge him, and lets his fists do the rest.
His story is short: find his note, beat him in a friendly duel at the Moorth Ruins and walk away with his fighting style and hat. You meet him one last time in Enir-Ilim, where he fights you no matter what you did before.
Walkthrough
- Pick up the note and the gesture. At the Highroad Cross Site of Grace in Scadu Altus you find the Monk’s Missive and the May the Best Win gesture. Both are needed for the duel.
- Find Dane at the Moorth Ruins. He waits by the Moorth Ruins Site of Grace in eastern Scadu Altus. The spot is also the easternmost cross on the New Cross Map from the Hornsent. Breaking Miquella’s charm does not change anything for him.
- Challenge him. Perform May the Best Win in front of him to start a mini boss duel. Win it and you get Dryleaf Arts and Dane’s Hat. He leaves you a short message urging you to keep training.
- Summon him against Romina (optional). His summon sign is available for Romina, Saint of the Bud.
- Find the rest of his set (optional). The other Dryleaf pieces lie in the Ruins of Unte, which you reach by climbing down a ladder in Shadow Keep to a teleporting coffin. From the coffin, head south past the Recluses’ River Upstream and Recluses’ River Downstream Sites of Grace, use the flat tombstones on the cliff to drop down to the top of the third waterfall, then go north to the waterfall you can see ahead. Under it you find the Dryleaf Robe, Dryleaf Arm Wraps and Dryleaf Cuissardes.
- Face him in Enir-Ilim. Dane is always one of Miquella’s allies in the battle at the Cleansing Chamber Anteroom Site of Grace in Enir-Ilim. After the fight, take Dane’s Footwork from his body.
Missable steps & failure conditions
- The quest has no known lock-outs. Your choices elsewhere do not change him, and he always fights you in Enir-Ilim.
- Since patch 1.13 you can no longer summon him against Rellana, Twin Moon Knight, so do not go looking for his sign there.
Endings & consequences
- Leda’s allies. Dane is a sworn ally of Needle Knight Leda and shows up with the rest of her group in Enir-Ilim. See Leda’s questline.
- His fate. He dies in the battle in Enir-Ilim, loyal to Miquella to the end.
