Bayle the Dread
Bayle the Dread is a legendary black dragon and, the stories say, the ancestor of the drakes. Long ago he betrayed the ancient dragons and fought Dragonlord Placidusax. Neither could win. Bayle lost his wing-arms, his back wings and a leg, then fled to the Jagged Peak, where he has been waiting ever since.
He is one of the hardest and most spectacular fights in the expansion, all fire and red lightning on a mountain top.
This boss is part of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. To reach the Land of Shadow, you first need to defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohgwyn Palace.

How to beat it
Phase 1. Bayle is stuck on the ground and fights with bites, stomps and a mix of fire and lightning. Aim for his head when he lowers it after a bite or a breath attack.
Phase 2. He grows a new set of wings made of red lightning and takes to the air. Watch for his dives and the lightning strikes that follow.
Help. Drake Warrior Igon can be summoned if you have his furled finger. He is made for this fight, and his harpoons hit Bayle hard.
Lore
Two of Placidusax’s lost heads are still clinging to Bayle’s neck. The ancient dragons who sided with him fought with the same branching red lightning, like Ancient Dragon Senessax, who sleeps further down the mountain.
Notes & tips
- Bayle drops the Heart of Bayle instead of a remembrance. You trade it at the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion, not with Finger Reader Enia.
- Igon and Florissax reward you after the fight.
