Fire Prelate

Fire Prelates are the hulking leaders of the Fire Monks, slow and heavy men in thick armour with cauldron-shaped helmets. They carry either a big flaming crozier or a thorned whip, and they hit very hard.

You meet one at Fort Laiedd on Mt. Gelmir. More wait in the Mountaintops of the Giants, one of them at the southern end of the stone bridge, and in the Giant-Conquering Hero’s Grave.

How to beat it

Treat a Fire Prelate like a small boss. Its swings are slow but reach far and deal a lot of damage, so do not get greedy. Wait for a big attack to finish, punish with one or two hits, and back off again.

Check which weapon it carries before you engage. The crozier version brings fire, while the whip version has longer reach.

Lore

The Prelates commanded the Fire Monks who helped the Erdtree’s champions in the war against the giants, and they later became guardians of the Flame of Ruin. Their massive frames stood for the weight of the vows they swore, and the cauldrons on their helms once held embers that flared up when their faith peaked. The most revered of them, Birac, is said to have cut off his own head to teach his brethren humility.
