The Tarnished (Protagonist)

The Tarnished is the player character. Called across the sea of fog to the Lands Between, and blessed once more by a grace long thought lost to their kind, they set out driven by ambition to claim the Elden Ring and become Elden Lord. Along the way they meet demigods and other bearers of Great Runes.

Nothing is known about where the Tarnished came from or what they did before arriving. The journey begins in the Chapel of Anticipation, off the western coast of Limgrave, where they find only the body of a Finger Maiden slumped against a wall. Later, the spectral steed Torrent chooses them as his rider.
