Chapel of Anticipation

The Chapel of Anticipation is the very first place you see. You wake under a maiden statue after crossing the sea of fog, next to the body of a Finger Maiden who never got to guide you. A message on the floor tells you to claim your place as Elden Lord, and then you walk out onto a rope bridge and into a courtyard with a huge statue of Queen Marika.

That is where the Grafted Scion drops in. The fight is designed so that you lose, and losing is what sends you on to the Stranded Graveyard and the real start of the game. If you are very skilled, or very stubborn, you can beat it with a starting character and get a couple of nice early items as a reward.

Sites of Grace
None. The chapel has no Site of Grace.
Notable loot
Tarnished’s Wizened Finger (on the Finger Maiden’s body)
Nascent Butterfly
Ornamental Straight Sword (beat the Grafted Scion)
Golden Beast Crest Shield (beat the Grafted Scion)
Stormhawk Deenh ashes and The Stormhawk King (only reachable on a return trip)

How to get there

You start here, and there are three ways to leave: beat the Grafted Scion, let it beat you, or jump off the edge. On your first visit, there is no way back afterwards.

You can return much later in the game through a teleporter at the Four Belfries in Liurnia, which opens the parts of the chapel you could not reach the first time.

Lore

The chapel is tied to the golden lineage, and Marika’s statue stands right in the middle of it. The dead Finger Maiden is a small detail, but it is the reason you need Melina later: your own maiden never had a chance.
