A light wooden roundshield painted with a red thorn emblem. It uses the standard Parry skill and only needs 8 Strength.

The emblem gives it slightly better fire negation than its other elemental values, though it is still not much use for actually blocking fire.

Where to find it

The Samurai class starts with it. It can also be bought for 600 Runes from the Nomadic Merchant near Castle Morne on the Weeping Peninsula.

Item description & lore

The thorn pattern is an ancient design. Fans connect it with the Giants’ Flame and the Briars of Sin: eight of its thorns curl around eight rivets, a number tied to the fell god of fire, and the cross-hatching resembles Radagon’s Rune.

Notes & tips

  • Despite the fire bonus, its fire guard is still too low to rely on against fire attacks.
