Rya’s Questline
Rya the Scout recruits Tarnished for Volcano Manor and believes with all her heart that Lady Tanith is her mother. Her real name is Zorayas, and the truth about where she came from is a lot darker than the story she was told. Her questline runs alongside your work for the Recusants, and it is one of the saddest little stories on Mt. Gelmir.
However it ends, you get the Daedicar’s Woe talisman. The real reward is choosing how Rya faces what she finds, so it is worth taking slowly.
Rewards
- An invitation to Volcano Manor, for returning Rya’s Necklace
- A quick trip to Volcano Manor from the Lux Ruins
- Tonic of Forgetfulness, from Tanith (optional, used on Rya)
- Daedicar’s Woe, at the end of the questline whichever choice you make
- Zorayas’s Letter, only if you neither kill her nor give her the tonic
Walkthrough
- Meet Rya in Liurnia (optional). Rya sits in a folly north of the Laskyar Ruins in Liurnia of the Lakes. Talk to her until she has nothing more to say. A barrier protects her here, so she cannot be harmed.
- Get her necklace back (optional). Go to the Boilprawn Shack and buy Rya’s Necklace from Blackguard Big Boggart for 1,000 runes, or take it from his body if you kill him. Bring it back to Rya and she gives you an invitation to Volcano Manor.
- Take her shortcut from Lux Ruins (optional). If you returned the necklace, Rya waits at the Lux Ruins on the Altus Plateau and offers to take you straight to Volcano Manor. She is protected by a barrier here as well.
- Join the Recusants. At Volcano Manor, accept Tanith’s offer to join her house. Rya now waits in the manor’s drawing room. The Tanith side of things is covered in the Volcano Manor Questline.
- Catch her in her true form. Defeat Old Knight Istvan and collect your reward from Tanith. Talk to Rya in the drawing room, reload the area, and open the previously locked room across the corridor. Rya is inside in her serpent form. Talk to her until she is done.
- Find the secret path. Defeat Rileigh the Idle and collect that reward too. Speak to Rya in the same room. Then go into the room next door, walk through the illusory wall at the back and follow the path down to the Prison Town Church Site of Grace. Rest there, go back to Rya and talk to her again.
- Bring her the Serpent’s Amnion. Fight through the manor to the Godskin Noble and defeat it. Pick up the Serpent’s Amnion and give it to Rya.
- Ask Tanith for the tonic (optional). Speak to Tanith and she gives you a Tonic of Forgetfulness, asking you to use it if the truth hurts her daughter too much.
- Find Rya above the Temple of Eiglay. Rya has gone deep into the manor. She waits in a small room above the Temple of Eiglay Site of Grace, past an Iron Virgin. She has learned what she is and asks you to end her life. You have three choices:
- Give her the tonic. She falls asleep. After you defeat Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy, she is back in the drawing room with no memory of what she learned. Talk to her, reload the area and go back to the room where she drank the tonic to pick up Daedicar’s Woe.
- Grant her wish. Kill her and you get Daedicar’s Woe right away.
- Refuse. Do not kill her and do not give her the tonic. After Rykard is dead, go back to her room to find Daedicar’s Woe and Zorayas’s Letter, which tells you she has left to go her own way.
Missable steps & failure conditions
- Rykard locks the questline. Defeating Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy locks every step you have not yet reached. Do Rya’s steps first, and only fight Rykard once she has made her final choice.
- Juno Hoslow and the tonic. If you kill Juno Hoslow for Tanith before you have given Rya the Serpent’s Amnion, Tanith will not give you the Tonic of Forgetfulness. You can still kill Rya or refuse her, but the tonic option is gone.
- Rest inside the manor. Tanith only offers the tonic after you have met Rya in her serpent form and rested at a Site of Grace in the main part of the manor, such as Prison Town Church.
- She cannot be harmed in Liurnia or Altus. Barriers protect her there, so you cannot kill her by accident early on.
Endings & consequences
- Rya’s fate. With the tonic she lives on in the drawing room, still believing she was born by the grace of a great king. If you kill her, she thanks you and her mother as she dies. If you refuse both, she leaves the manor to carry on Tanith’s work in her own way.
- Tanith. Tanith is Rya’s adoptive mother and cares for her deeply. Her own story continues in the Volcano Manor Questline.
- Daedicar. The talisman you earn hints that Daedicar may be the mother Rya never knew.
