Igon’s Questline
Igon is a former battlefield scavenger who found his pride through Dragon Communion, then had it torn out of him by Bayle the Dread. You find him lying in the dirt of the Gravesite Plain, wrecked in body and mind, swearing he will still get his revenge.
His story is short and walks you straight up the Jagged Peak. Prove yourself against its drakes, take his finger, and bring his soul to Bayle’s arena. It is one of the best summons in the DLC for that fight, and his gear and greatbow are waiting for you when the dragon falls.
Rewards
- Igon’s Furled Finger, from Igon after the two Jagged Peak Drakes
- Igon’s Greatbow, Igon’s Armor and the rest of his set (helm, gauntlets and loincloth), where he stood after Bayle dies
- Igon’s Bell Bearing, in the same place. Give it to the Twin Maiden Husks to buy Igon’s Harpoons for 1,000 runes each
Igon also wrote two cookbooks you can track down in the Land of Shadow, Igon’s Cookbook 1 and Igon’s Cookbook 2. The first one teaches you to craft Dragon Communion Grease and the Dragon Communion Harpoon.
Walkthrough
- Find Igon past the Ellac Greatbridge. Cross the Ellac Greatbridge and follow the road south past the Pillar Path Waypoint Site of Grace. You will hear Igon screaming at Bayle long before you see him. Talk to him until he only repeats himself about his pain.
- Head for the Dragon’s Pit. Keep going south along the road of headless dragon statues. A jar hanging off the cliff on your right holds the Herbalist’s Bell Bearing. Further on, a cave with a lit brazier on the left leads into the Dragon’s Pit.
- Get through the Dragon’s Pit. Follow the lit lanterns, take the lower route rather than the upper one, and jump off the edge of the altar into the dark. Below, beat the Ancient Dragon-Man for the Dragon-Hunter’s Great Katana, then open the door behind the arena and rest at the grace before the exit.
- Reach the Jagged Peak (first drake optional). Outside, a Jagged Peak Drake lies in the open to the east. Killing it is optional. South of it is the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion, where you meet the Dragon Communion Priestess. Talk to her fully and activate the grace there.
- Beat the two drakes. Go back past the first drake’s spot and head north through the pillars, use the Spiritspring, cross the bridge and touch the Foot of the Jagged Peak Site of Grace. Ahead, two Jagged Peak Drakes wait together in one arena.
- Take Igon’s Furled Finger. After the drakes die, Igon’s voice rings out. Find him at the mouth of the narrow canyon in the southeast corner of that arena, in the thick red smoke. Talk to him and he gives you Igon’s Furled Finger so you can call his soul to Bayle’s fight.
- Climb the mountain. Ride the Spiritsprings up behind him and enter the dragon cave. Defeating Ancient Dragon Senessax there is optional for Igon, but it is the way up the peak. Keep following the dragon remains southwest through the lightning until you reach the last grace before Bayle.
- Summon Igon against Bayle (optional). His sign cannot be used from outside. Walk into the arena, let Bayle land, and look just to the left of the entrance for his summon sign. Calling him is optional, but he fights hard and hits dragons very well.
- Collect his gear. Once Bayle is dead, go back to the spot where you fought the two drakes. Igon’s belongings now lie where he stood.
Missable steps & failure conditions
- Nothing is really missable. You do not need to start his quest or summon him to get his items. They appear at his last spot once Bayle is beaten either way.
- His summon sign is only inside the arena. You will not see it outside the fog. Step in, wait for Bayle to land, then look left of the entrance.
- Attacking Igon turns him hostile. Killing him drops his armour, greatbow and harpoons, but you lose his help against Bayle.
Endings & consequences
- Igon’s fate. Whether you call him or not, beating Bayle ends his story. Only his gear and bell bearing remain at the foot of the peak.
- Dragon Communion Priestess. Her own story runs alongside Igon’s, and she has things to say about him, so exhaust her dialogue before you finish this quest. When you return to the Grand Altar afterwards, what you get depends on her questline: if you gave her Thiollier’s Concoction, you end up with Dragonbolt of Florissax and the Ancient Dragon Florissax spirit ashes. Without it, the outcome is the Priestess Heart and Flowerstone Gavel. Follow Thiollier‘s questline if you want the first route.
