Cleanrot Knight

Cleanrot Knights are tall knights in golden armour with winged, cone-shaped helms. They fight with spears, swords or scythes, and some can inflict Scarlet Rot.

As regular enemies you meet them in the Swamp of Aeonia, The Shaded Castle, the War-Dead Catacombs, the Consecrated Snowfield Catacombs and Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree. They are also bosses: a single spear knight waits at the end of Stillwater Cave, and a pair (a spear knight and a scythe-wielding commander) guards the end of the Abandoned Cave.

How to beat it

The spear knight’s most dangerous move is a charging grab that inflicts Scarlet Rot. You can see it coming when the spear starts glowing bright gold. Roll diagonally forward past it rather than backwards. In Stillwater Cave most of the floor is poisonous water, so head straight for the small dry patch to the left of the boss and fight from there.

In the Abandoned Cave only the spear knight is there at first. The scythe commander rises out of the rot pool within about 12 seconds, so use that window to summon a spirit or hurt the spear knight as much as you can. The spear knight is the more aggressive of the two and tries to box you in with Sacred Phalanx.

Lore

The Cleanrot Knights stayed devoted to Malenia even as her scarlet rot ate away at their bodies. Their winged helms and sword emblems stood for the resolve of their Empyrean. They marched under her through her undefeated campaign in the Shattering, passing through the Shaded Castle on the way, and stood with Miquella’s followers in Elphael. The remains of several Abductor Virgins lie scattered around the Abandoned Cave arena.
