Giant Ant

Giant Ants are oversized red, hairy insects that defend their tunnels and feed on piles of human remains. They seize prey in their jaws and stab with the stinger on their abdomen, and they can spit clumps of acid that later harden into Formic Rock.

You meet them in Ainsel River and around Nokstella, Eternal City, in the Deeproot Depths, in Miquella’s Haligtree and in the Rotted Woods. In their lairs they cling to walls and even ceilings and drop down to ambush you.

How to beat it

Their acid spray reaches surprisingly far and gets past a raised shield, so dodge it rather than blocking. Aim for the abdomen, which is their weak spot, and check the ceiling before you walk into a dark tunnel.

The winged ants can die from fall damage, so fighting them near a drop can help. The fat Honeypot Ants do not respawn like normal enemies but carry better loot, including Rune Arcs.

Lore

Several items were made from these ants. The Antspur Rapier is a giant ant’s spur turned into a blade dripping with scarlet rot, and the huge head of one of the ants from the underground rivers was used as a shield without any changes at all.
