Death Rite Bird
Death Rite Birds are huge, rotting birds covered in ghostflame, much bigger and nastier than the Deathbirds you meet early on. They appear only at night, often dropping out of a giant ball of ghostflame in the sky.
The first one many players meet haunts Academy Gate Town in Liurnia of the Lakes. Others wait in Caelid, the Mountaintops of the Giants and the Consecrated Snowfield.

How to beat it
Its melee attacks cause frostbite, and it breathes ghostflame across the ground. Below half health it adds a few powerful new attacks, including a big ghostflame explosion. Bring holy damage and stay to its side. You can lock on to the head for bigger hits, but the head moves a lot, so be careful not to lose sight of the body.
