The Pit

The Pit is an unmarked, bottomless hole in Limgrave, southeast of The First Step. Fall in and you die instantly. It is the only hole like this on the surface of the Lands Between, since every other deadly drop is a cliff or the sea.

It is surrounded by eleven crucifixes and three breakable carts, with Man-Bats flapping about overhead. The real danger is the ground itself: the north and west edges are higher than the rest, so you cannot see the hole from that side until you are right at the lip. Plenty of players have ridden straight into it.

Around the edge you will also meet Great Dragonflies and Springhares. In PvP, sneaky players like to lure a chaser toward the hidden north edge and jump across, hoping they fall in.
