Roderika’s Questline

Roderika is a young Tarnished noblewoman who crossed the sea with a band of loyal companions, only to watch them all end up as grafting material for Godrick. You find her hiding, heartbroken, in Stormhill Shack.

Help her find her feet and she ends up at the Roundtable Hold, where Smithing Master Hewg trains her as a spirit tuner. That makes her the person who upgrades your Spirit Ashes for the rest of the game, which alone makes this quest worth doing. Her quiet friendship with Hewg is one of the warmer stories in a very cold world.

Rewards
  • Sitting Sideways gesture, from Roderika at Stormhill Shack
  • Spirit Jellyfish Ashes, at Stormhill Shack or the Roundtable Hold
  • Golden Seed, when she arrives at the Roundtable Hold
  • Spirit Ash upgrades up to +10, paid with Grave Glovewort and Ghost Glovewort
  • Curtsy gesture, after you upgrade a Spirit Ash to +4 or higher
  • Crimson Hood, which appears in Stormveil Castle on the pile of bodies where you found the Chrysalids’ Memento once she has become a spirit tuner

Walkthrough

  1. Meet her at Stormhill Shack (optional). Roderika sits in Stormhill Shack in Stormhill as long as you have not defeated Godrick the Grafted or touched a Site of Grace in Liurnia of the Lakes. Talk to her until she has nothing more to say to get the Sitting Sideways gesture and the Spirit Jellyfish Ashes.
  2. Find the Chrysalids’ Memento (optional). In Stormveil Castle, go into the courtyard next to the large hall where a Grafted Scion waits, and pick up the Chrysalids’ Memento.
  3. Bring her the memento (optional). Give the memento to Roderika at Stormhill Shack and talk to her until she runs out of words. She then leaves for the Roundtable Hold.
  4. Find her at the Roundtable Hold. Roderika sits by the fireplace in the central room of the Roundtable Hold. Talk to her when she arrives to receive a Golden Seed.
  5. Ask Hewg about her. Talk to Roderika, then go to Smithing Master Hewg and choose to ask about Roderika.
  6. Pass on his answer. Go back to Roderika and tell her what Hewg said.
  7. Convince Hewg. Return to Hewg, ask about Roderika again, ask him to watch over her and tell him it is what she wants.
  8. Meet the new spirit tuner. Reload the area. Roderika now sits across from Hewg and can upgrade your Spirit Ashes.
  9. Earn a gesture (optional). Upgrade any Spirit Ash to +4 or higher and talk to her for the Curtsy gesture.
  10. After the Erdtree burns. Once you have burned the Erdtree, return to the Hold. Talk to Hewg and ask why he is still making weapons. Then speak to Roderika and ask about Hewg, and finally go back to Hewg and ask what happened to her.
  11. The last conversation. After defeating Maliketh, the Black Blade, ask Hewg about himself, then talk to Roderika one final time.

Missable steps & failure conditions

  • Stormhill Shack closes early. If you defeat Godrick or rest at a Site of Grace in Liurnia before talking to her, Roderika moves to the Roundtable Hold on her own. You then miss the shack conversation and the Sitting Sideways gesture, and the Golden Seed is left on the floor of the shack instead of handed to you.
  • The spirit tuning steps are not optional. She only starts upgrading Spirit Ashes after you have gone back and forth between her and Hewg and talked him into teaching her.
  • She cannot die. Roderika cannot be harmed or killed, so there is no way to lose her services by accident.

Endings & consequences

  • Hewg. Her story is tied to Smithing Master Hewg, who becomes her teacher. See Hewg’s Questline for his side of it.
  • The Dung Eater. Once she is a spirit tuner she can sense the cursed spirits around the Dung Eater and warns you about the newcomer lurking in the Hold.
  • The burning Hold. After the Erdtree burns, she tries to get Hewg to leave the Roundtable, but he refuses and slowly forgets both of you. She chooses to stay by his side, and asks you to become Elden Lord and slay Queen Marika with the weapons Hewg made.
