Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon
Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon is the Shardbearer of the Academy of Raya Lucaria and the head of the Carian royal family. You find her in the Grand Library, floating above her students and cradling an amber egg, lost in the memory of a husband who left her.
The fight is unlike any other in the game. The first phase is a puzzle more than a duel, and the second turns the library into a moonlit plain where Rennala finally fights back with the full force of her sorcery. She is not too hard, but she is very memorable.

How to beat it
Phase 1. Rennala floats around the room inside a golden shield that blocks all damage. Her students, the Juvenile Scholars, keep her protected. Look for the scholars who glow golden and hit them. Once you have broken through three of them, the shield falls and Rennala drops to the floor, open for heavy hits. Repeat until the phase ends. Keep moving, because the scholars throw books and spit fire.
Phase 2. The library turns into a wide, moonlit plain and Rennala fights with spells. Her glintstone attacks hit hard but are easy to see coming, so close the distance and stay near her. Below about 60% health she starts summoning spirits, such as a wolf pack, a troll or a dragon. Kill them quickly or keep pressure on Rennala herself. Her full moon spell can be dodged by rolling toward it at the right moment.
Lore
Rennala was once a great queen who charmed the Academy with her moon magic. Then Radagon came to Liurnia as a conqueror, married her at the Church of Vows, and later left her to become Queen Marika’s consort. She never recovered. The egg she holds is part of her attempt to bring back what she lost.
Her younger sister, Rellana, Twin Moon Knight, gave up her birthright to follow Messmer into the Land of Shadow. You can fight her in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
Notes & tips
- After the fight, Rennala stays in the library. Talk to her and, with a Larval Tear, she lets you rebirth: reallocate your stats or change your appearance.
- Her staff, the Carian Regal Scepter, can be traded for her remembrance and is one of the best staffs for full moon sorceries.
