Memory Slots

Elden Ring Memory Slots: start with 2, gain 10 from all 8 Memory Stones (table of locations) and reach the max of 12 with Moon of Nokstella.

Memory Slots decide how many sorceries and incantations you can have equipped at once in Elden Ring. You start with two, there are eight Memory Stones to collect for a total of ten, and wearing the Moon of Nokstella talisman pushes you to the maximum of 12.

What Memory Slots do

You have to memorize a spell before you can cast it, and every spell you memorize takes up slots. Spells can only be set while you rest at a Site of Grace, never mid-fight, so plan your loadout before heading into a dungeon or up to a boss.

Memory Slots count as one of your base stats, but unlike Dark Souls 3’s Attunement they aren’t tied to a stat you level, and they have nothing to do with your FP. You raise them only with Memory Stones and a talisman. The more slots you have, the more Intelligence or Faith tools you can bring along at once.

Where the 8 Memory Stones are

Memory Stones are key items: you never equip them, the slot is added as soon as you pick one up and it stays for good. Here’s where all eight are, with full walkthroughs in our Memory Stone Locations guide:

# Where Region How
1 Roundtable Hold Hub Buy from the Twin Maiden Husks for 3,000 runes
2 Oridys’s Rise Weeping Peninsula Chest at the top, after the tower’s puzzle
3 Converted Tower Western Liurnia Chest on the top floor, after the tower’s challenge
4 Academy of Raya Lucaria Liurnia Dropped by the Red Wolf of Radagon
5 Testu’s Rise Northern Liurnia Chest on the top floor, after the tower’s puzzle
6 Seluvis’s Rise Three Sisters, Liurnia Chest on the top floor
7 Northeast of Hermit Village Mt. Gelmir Dropped by Demi-Human Queen Maggie, an optional boss
8 Lenne’s Rise Eastern Dragonbarrow, Caelid Chest on the top floor; jump onto the open balcony from the spiritspring south of the tower

Liurnia alone holds four of the eight, so a sorcerer or faith build that clears the lake region early ends up with a comfortable loadout well before the late game.

Moon of Nokstella

The Moon of Nokstella does the same job as two extra Memory Stones, with one catch: it only works while it’s equipped, so it competes with your other talismans for a slot. Memory Stones work passively from your inventory. If you’re short on talisman slots, see Talisman Pouch Locations.

Tips

  • The Twin Maiden Husks stone is the easiest one to get, as long as you can spare the runes.
  • Several rises are locked behind a small challenge or puzzle; the location guide explains each one.
