D’s Questline
There are two men called D. The first, D, Hunter of the Dead, is a golden-armoured zealot who hunts Those Who Live in Death and introduces you to the beast clergyman Gurranq. The second is his twin brother, D, Beholder of Death, a broken man waiting deep underground in Nokron. The two share a single soul, and what happens to one shapes the fate of the other.
Their story is short and quiet, but it runs straight through Fia‘s questline and ends in the Deeproot Depths. Follow it to the end and you walk away with the Twinned Set, the Inseparable Sword and two fine incantations.
Rewards
- Litany of Proper Death and Order’s Blade, sold by D after you meet Gurranq
- D as a summon in the Black Knife Catacombs and against a Tibia Mariner in Liurnia
- The Twinned Set (Twinned Helm, Twinned Armor, Twinned Gauntlets, Twinned Greaves), first after D’s death and again at the end in the Deeproot Depths
- D, Beholder of Death as a summon against the Valiant Gargoyles
- Inseparable Sword, in the Deeproot Depths at the end of the story
Walkthrough
- Meet D outside Summonwater Village (optional). In Limgrave, D stands near Summonwater Village and warns you that the place is crawling with Those Who Live in Death, including a Tibia Mariner.
- Clear the village (optional). Defeat the Tibia Mariner in Summonwater Village. D then shows up in the village and, if you have a Deathroot, offers to introduce you to Gurranq, Beast Clergyman.
- Find him in the Roundtable Hold. D moves to the Roundtable Hold whether you met him in Limgrave or not. If you carry a Deathroot and skipped the Limgrave meeting, he makes his Gurranq offer here instead.
- Visit Gurranq and open D’s shop. Once you have met Gurranq in the Bestial Sanctum, D starts selling the Litany of Proper Death and Order’s Blade. He also becomes available as a summon in the Black Knife Catacombs and against a Tibia Mariner in Liurnia.
- Hand over the Weathered Dagger. As part of Fia’s questline she gives you a Weathered Dagger to return to its owner. Give it to D, then reload the area. A previously closed room in the Hold is now open, with Fia standing over D’s body. His Twinned Set is yours to take.
- Find his brother in Nokron. D, Beholder of Death waits outside the arena of the Valiant Gargoyles in Nokron, Eternal City, beyond the northern Hallowhorn Grounds. Give him the full Twinned Set.
- Fight the gargoyles together (optional). After giving him the armour and reloading the area, his summon sign appears for the Valiant Gargoyles fight.
- Finish in the Deeproot Depths. Complete Fia’s questline and take the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince. D, Beholder of Death is then found standing over Fia’s body in the Deeproot Depths. Reload the area and he is gone. The Inseparable Sword and the Twinned Set lie nearby.
Missable steps & failure conditions
- Do not kill D yourself. Killing D, Hunter of the Dead gives you his Twinned Set and D’s Bell Bearing, but if you then hand that set to his brother in Nokron, the Beholder of Death turns hostile the next time the area loads. Killing him drops the Twinned Set and Inseparable Sword and ends the questline on the spot.
- The ending needs Fia. The last scene in the Deeproot Depths only happens after you finish Fia‘s questline.
Endings & consequences
- D, Hunter of the Dead dies. Delivering Fia’s Weathered Dagger leads to his death, and it is what moves Fia’s own story forward.
- Fia’s fate. D, Beholder of Death avenges his brother and kills Fia at the Prince of Death’s Throne once she has made her Mending Rune. By then you have already taken the Mending Rune from her body.
- Gurranq. D’s introduction leads you to Gurranq, who trades rewards for every Deathroot you bring him.
- Rogier. Rogier was an old friend of D, and the letter he leaves behind tells you where D’s twin can be found.
