Blaidd’s Questline
Blaidd the Half-Wolf is a gruff, honest warrior and the sworn shadow of Ranni the Witch. He was made by the Two Fingers to serve her, grew up beside her like a brother, and would follow her anywhere. You first meet him hunting a traitor in the Mistwood Ruins, and from there he keeps popping up as a friend and fighting partner while he searches for the hidden road to Nokron.
His story runs alongside Ranni’s questline and gives you a strong ally for two tough fights. It does not have a happy ending, though. Bring tissues, and a good weapon for the last meeting.
Rewards
- Finger Snap gesture, from Merchant Kalé
- Somber Smithing Stone [2], from Blaidd outside the Forlorn Hound Evergaol after Darriwil
- A strong summonable ally against Bloodhound Knight Darriwil and Starscourge Radahn
- The Starfall Crater marked on your map, after Radahn
- Royal Greatsword, Blaidd’s Armor, Blaidd’s Gauntlets and Blaidd’s Greaves, from the final fight at the Three Sisters
Walkthrough
- Hear the howl in Mistwood. While exploring the Mistwood in Limgrave, you hear a wolf howling. Then talk to Merchant Kalé and ask him about the howling. He teaches you the Finger Snap gesture.
- Snap your fingers at the Mistwood Ruins. Go to the ruined tower in the Mistwood Ruins, next to the sleeping Runebear, and use the Finger Snap gesture. Blaidd jumps down to meet you. Talk to him until he runs out of things to say.
- Take down Darriwil together. Enter the Forlorn Hound Evergaol and fight Bloodhound Knight Darriwil. Blaidd can be summoned to help. Afterwards he waits outside the evergaol. Talk to him for a Somber Smithing Stone [2].
- Talk to his projection at Ranni’s Rise. Once you have entered Ranni’s service, a projection of Blaidd appears in Ranni’s Rise. Speak to it. This step is skipped if you have already beaten Starscourge Radahn.
- Find him on the Siofra River. Blaidd moves underground to the foot of an enormous ruined bridge on the bank of the Siofra River, between the Siofra River Bank and Worshipper’s Woods Sites of Grace. He suggests you ask Preceptor Seluvis how to reach Nokron. This step is also skipped if Radahn is already dead.
- Follow the Nokron lead (optional). Ask Seluvis about Nokron, then talk to Sorceress Sellen. Return to Blaidd and exhaust his dialogue. He then sets off for Redmane Castle.
- Join him at the Radahn Festival. When the festival begins, Blaidd stands near the Redmane Castle Plaza Site of Grace in Caelid. In the fight against Starscourge Radahn you can summon him as an ally.
- Talk to him on the Wailing Dunes (optional). After Radahn falls, find Blaidd beside the Starscourge Radahn Site of Grace on the Wailing Dunes. He marks the Starfall Crater, the way into Nokron, on your map.
- Visit the evergaol again (optional). Later on, interact with the Forlorn Hound Evergaol to speak to Blaidd, who is now inside. You can choose to set him free or leave him where he is.
- Face him at the Three Sisters. After you give Ranni the Dark Moon Ring, Blaidd waits outside Ranni’s Rise in the Three Sisters, surrounded by dead Black Knife Assassins. He is hostile now. Defeat him to take his armour and his Royal Greatsword.
- Tell Iji (optional). Go to War Counselor Iji at the Kingsrealm Ruins and let him know what happened to Blaidd.
Missable steps & failure conditions
- Beating Radahn early skips two steps. If Starscourge Radahn is already dead, Blaidd’s projection at Ranni’s Rise and his talk on the Siofra River never happen.
- Attacking Blaidd. He cannot truly die before his time. Kill him early and he comes back, but stays hostile until you use Celestial Dew to seek absolution at the Church of Vows.
- The final fight comes with Ranni’s ending. Giving Ranni the Dark Moon Ring is what turns Blaidd hostile. If you carry on with her questline, this fight is part of the deal.
Endings & consequences
- Ranni. Blaidd’s fate is bound to Ranni’s. As a shadowbound beast he was meant to go mad if she ever resisted the Two Fingers, and her rebellion is what finally breaks him.
- The Baleful Shadow. In Ranni’s questline you fight a shadow in Nokstella that wears Blaidd’s shape. It is an assassin, not Blaidd himself.
- The Black Wolf Mask. A body near Ranni’s Rise carries the Black Wolf Mask, most likely the disguise of an assassin who tried to get close to Ranni by passing as Blaidd.
- Iji. After the last fight, Iji is the one who will want to hear how Blaidd fell.
