Boc’s Questline
Boc the Seamster is a gentle Demi-Human from Limgrave who dreams of following in the footsteps of his late mother, a seamstress. Cast out by his own tribe and turned into a bush by a spell, he is about as down on his luck as anyone can be when you find him. Free him, help him get his mother’s needle back, and he becomes your personal tailor, altering your armour for free wherever he turns up.
Boc follows you all the way to the Royal Capital. Underneath his cheerful loyalty he is deeply unhappy with his looks, and the end of his story is one of the most quietly heartbreaking choices in the game. With the right item, though, you can give him a happy ending.
Rewards
- Free armour alterations wherever you find him, from the Liurnia meeting onwards
- Alterations of demigod garments, once he has the Gold Sewing Needle
- My Lord gesture, at the Altus Highway Junction
- A living Boc, if you use the Prattling Pate ‘You’re beautiful’ on him in Leyndell
Walkthrough
- Free him from the bush. Near Gatefront Ruins in Limgrave, a small bush calls out to you. Attack it or roll into it to break the illusion and Boc appears. Talk to him.
- Get his mother’s needle back. Boc sneaks back to his old home in the Coastal Cave and gets beaten up for his trouble. You find him lying next to the Site of Grace at the start of the cave. Defeat the Demi-Human Chief pair at the end of the cave to get the Sewing Needle, then give it to Boc.
- Use his services in Liurnia (optional). Boc next appears beside the Lake-facing Cliffs Site of Grace in Liurnia of the Lakes, where he offers to alter your gear free of charge.
- Give him the Gold Sewing Needle (optional). Later he moves to the East Raya Lucaria Gate. Hand him the Gold Sewing Needle, found in a chest at the Church of Vows, and he can alter demigod garments too. If you miss this spot, you can give it to him at a later meeting.
- Let him call you Lord (optional). At the Altus Highway Junction on the Altus Plateau, if he already has the gold needle, Boc asks if he may call you Lord. Say yes and you get the My Lord gesture.
- His last wish in Leyndell. Boc’s final stop is the East Capital Rampart in Leyndell, Royal Capital. If you have defeated Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, he asks you for a Larval Tear so he can be reborn. You have three ways to respond:
- Give him the Larval Tear. He goes to the Raya Lucaria Grand Library in the Academy of Raya Lucaria and kneels there in human form, no longer answering. Reload the area and he is dead.
- Refuse. A new option appears where you ask what he really thinks. Choosing it leads to Boc dying just outside the Grand Library.
- Use the Prattling Pate. Instead of either answer, use Prattling Pate ‘You’re beautiful’ in front of him. It speaks with his mother’s voice, he finds peace, and he stays at the East Capital Rampart for the rest of the game. You find the pate in the Hermit Village on Mt. Gelmir.
Missable steps & failure conditions
- Get the Prattling Pate before Leyndell. The only way to keep Boc alive is to use Prattling Pate ‘You’re beautiful’ in front of him at the East Capital Rampart. Grab it from the Hermit Village on Mt. Gelmir before you go, and use it before you give or refuse the Larval Tear.
- Both answers end in his death. Giving him the Larval Tear, or refusing and then asking what he really thinks, both lead to Boc dying at the Raya Lucaria Grand Library. You lose your free tailor too.
- The Gold Sewing Needle is not urgent. If you miss him at the East Raya Lucaria Gate, you can still give it to him later.
- Killing Boc ends the quest and your free alteration service.
Endings & consequences
- Boc’s fate. With the Prattling Pate he lives on, happy and still at your service. Otherwise he dies at the Grand Library.
- Rennala. His wish to be reborn only comes up after Rennala has been defeated, since rebirth is her power.
- His mother. The pate carries the voice of Boc’s Mother, which is why it means so much to him.
- No key needed. Boc reaches the Grand Library without an Academy Glintstone Key, so you do not need to worry about letting him in.
