Irina and Edgar’s Questline
Irina of Morne is a young blindfolded woman who fled Castle Morne when its Misbegotten servants rose up. Her father, Castellan Edgar, stayed behind to guard the castle’s treasured sword, and all she wants is for him to get out alive. She asks you to carry a letter to him.
It is one of the first questlines you are likely to stumble on, and one of the saddest. It runs from the Weeping Peninsula to Liurnia of the Lakes, rewards you with a big greatsword, a halberd and a handy talisman, and quietly sets up the later story of Lightseeker Hyetta.
Rewards
- Sacrificial Twig, from Edgar the first time you talk to him in Castle Morne
- Grafted Blade Greatsword, for defeating the Leonine Misbegotten
- Banished Knight’s Halberd +8, dropped by Edgar
- Shabriri Grape, dropped by Edgar the Revenger
- Five Raw Meat Dumplings and a Furlcalling Finger Remedy, dropped by Edgar the Revenger at the Revenger’s Shack
Walkthrough
- Meet Irina. On the Weeping Peninsula, just south of the Bridge of Sacrifice, Irina sits on a rock. Talk to her and agree to help. She gives you Irina’s Letter for her father.
- Find Edgar in Castle Morne. Make your way into Castle Morne and climb to the top of the tower where Castellan Edgar stands guard. Talk to him and he gives you a Sacrificial Twig. Show him the letter and he tells you about the castle’s sword, which the Misbegotten have taken. Do this before you fight the boss.
- Defeat the Leonine Misbegotten. Having shown Edgar the letter, you can summon him as an ally for the fight against the Leonine Misbegotten. Win and you get the Grafted Blade Greatsword.
- Talk to Edgar again. Go back to Edgar’s tower and talk to him until he has nothing more to say. With the sword safe, he is free to go and find his daughter.
- Return to the bridge. Head back to where you met Irina. You find only her body. If you beat the Leonine Misbegotten, Edgar is standing over her. Talk to him until he runs out of words.
- Face Edgar the Revenger. In Liurnia of the Lakes, look for a trail of dead Scaly Misbegotten leading to the Revenger’s Shack. As you approach the shack, Edgar, now consumed by grief and madness, invades you. Defeat him to end the questline and collect his belongings.
Missable steps & failure conditions
- Do not rest in Liurnia too early. If you rest at any Site of Grace in Liurnia of the Lakes after taking Irina’s Letter, Irina dies, even if you never went to Castle Morne. Deliver the letter and beat the boss first if you want the full story.
- Show Edgar the letter before the boss. His summon sign for the Leonine Misbegotten only appears after you have shown him the letter, and he only turns up at Irina’s side if you defeat the boss.
- Killing Irina ends her questline early and stops Lightseeker Hyetta from ever appearing. Edgar will also be hostile when you meet him by her body.
- Killing Edgar in Castle Morne ends his part of the story. His Shabriri Grape appears where he stood once you reload the area.
Endings & consequences
- Irina’s fate. Irina always dies at the hands of the Misbegotten. There is no way to save her.
- Lightseeker Hyetta. Lightseeker Hyetta shares Irina’s looks and voice and only appears if Irina’s story ended with her death at the hands of the Misbegotten. The Shabriri Grape Edgar drops ties into her story.
- White Mask Varré. Irina’s blood can be used to soak the Lord of Blood’s Favor for White Mask Varré.
- Edgar’s fate. Edgar blames the Misbegotten, hunts them across the land and slowly loses his mind to the Frenzied Flame. You end his story at the Revenger’s Shack.
