Varré’s Questline
White Mask Varré is the smug man in the white mask who greets you right after you leave the Stranded Graveyard and kindly points out that you are maidenless. He dresses as a war surgeon, speaks sweetly and calls you his lambkin, but underneath he is a devoted follower of Mohg, Lord of Blood.
His questline is your way into Mohg’s bloody dynasty. Along the way you get the fingers you need to invade other worlds, and at the end the Pureblood Knight’s Medal, which takes you straight to Mohgwyn Palace. There Varré waits for one last fight.
Rewards
- Bravo! gesture, from his message at the First Step
- Five Festering Bloody Fingers, at the Rose Church
- Lord of Blood’s Favor, after the invasions
- Bloody Finger, for the soaked cloth
- Pureblood Knight’s Medal, right after the Bloody Finger
- Six Festering Bloody Fingers, a Rune Arc and a Furlcalling Finger Remedy, for defeating him at Mohgwyn Palace
- Varré’s Bouquet, when he dies at the end
Walkthrough
- Meet him at the First Step (optional). Varré stands just past The First Step Site of Grace in Limgrave. Talk to him. Come back after you have visited the Roundtable Hold and again after you have a Great Rune for more dialogue.
- Read his message (optional). After you talk to Finger Reader Enia at the Roundtable Hold, Varré leaves the First Step and a message in his spot. Read it to learn the Bravo! gesture.
- Find him at the Rose Church. He now waits at the entrance of the Rose Church in Liurnia, west of the Fallen Ruins of the Lake Site of Grace. When he asks about the Two Fingers, answer that they did not seem right, and talk until he is done. He gives you five Festering Bloody Fingers.
- Invade three times, or beat Magnus. On the Altus Plateau, use the invasion sign at the Writheblood Ruins, south-west of the Road of Iniquity Side Path Site of Grace, to invade Magnus the Beast Claw. Defeating him once, or simply invading him three times, is enough. Invading real players three times works too.
- Collect the Lord of Blood’s Favor. Return to Varré at the Rose Church and he gives you the Lord of Blood’s Favor, a cloth that has to be soaked in a maiden’s blood.
- Find a maiden’s blood. You have three options: the body of your own Finger Maiden in the Chapel of Anticipation, which you reach with an Imbued Sword Key at the Four Belfries; Vyke’s Finger Maiden in the Church of Inhibition; or killing Irina of Morne, or Lightseeker Hyetta if Irina is already dead.
- Get your rewards. Bring the soaked cloth back to Varré. He gives you the Bloody Finger. Talk to him again for the Pureblood Knight’s Medal.
- Face him in Mohgwyn Palace. Reach Mohgwyn Palace with the medal, or through the waygate in the Consecrated Snowfield. Use his invasion sign in the hallway just before the Dynasty Mausoleum Midpoint Site of Grace and defeat him. He drops six Festering Bloody Fingers, a Rune Arc and a Furlcalling Finger Remedy.
- Say goodbye. Afterwards, Varré lies on the floor close to where his sign was. Talk to him until he is done. He dies and leaves behind Varré’s Bouquet.
Missable steps & failure conditions
- Answer him the right way. At the Rose Church you must say that the Two Fingers did not seem right. Refuse his offer and he simply waits for you to change your mind.
- Pick your maiden carefully. Soaking the cloth with Irina or Hyetta means killing them, which ends their questlines for good. The Chapel of Anticipation and the Church of Inhibition cost you no one.
- Talk to Enia first. Varré only moves to the Rose Church after you have spoken with Finger Reader Enia at the Roundtable Hold.
- You can still reach Mohgwyn without him. If you skip or break his quest, the waygate in the Consecrated Snowfield also leads to Mohgwyn Palace.
Endings & consequences
- Varré’s fate. He dies on the floor of Mohgwyn Palace, blessing Mohg’s dynasty with his last breath.
- Irina and Hyetta. If you use one of them for the blood, their stories end. See Irina and Edgar’s Questline and Hyetta’s Questline.
- Invasions. The Bloody Finger lets you invade other players’ worlds.
- Mohg. The medal is an early ticket to Mohg, Lord of Blood and his palace.
